The LEAD Scholars Program provides a pathway to success with mentorship, resources, and community support. Below, you'll find step-by-step instructions to navigate the application process. 1. Application Submission
  1. Apply to Westfield State University
    • Submit your application to Westfield State University on our website or the Common App.
  2. Indicate Interest in the LEAD Scholars Program
    • On your application, check the box to be considered for the LEAD Scholars Program and select yes.
  3. Submit a College Essay or Personal Narrative
    • This can be included in the "essay" portion of your application.
  4. Submit Two Letters of Recommendation
    • First Letter: Must be from your school counselor.
    • Second Letter: Should come from a teacher who can speak to your academic abilities and character.
    • Additional Recommendations: Optional but welcomed.

For Supplemental Materials (if already applied):

Email your essay or letters of recommendation to the Office of Admission at admission@westfield.ma.edu.

2. Application Review and Interview Invitation

Post-Acceptance to Westfield State University:

  • After receiving your acceptance letter from Westfield State University, your application and supplemental materials will be reviewed by a professional staff member of the LEAD Scholars Program.
  • If you meet the program requirements, you will receive an invitation to set up an interview.

Attend an Interview

  • Schedule and attend your virtual interview with a professional staff member.
3. Acceptance into the LEAD Scholars Program

If accepted into the LEAD Scholars Program, your next steps are as follows:

  • Commit to Westfield State University; submit your deposit here.
  • Complete the "Intent to Attend" form to confirm that you accept your offer to join us for our five-week Summer Bridge Program.
  • After submitting your “Intent to Attend” form, we will email you additional information and forms required for the Summer Bridge Program such as the student agreement form, university required forms, packing list, etc. 
  • All Summer Bridge Program forms must be completed June 14, 2024.
  • Be sure to check your emails regularly for updates from the LEAD Scholars Program.

Am I eligible to apply for the LEAD Scholars Program?

You are eligible to apply if:

  • You are a first-generation college student; neither of your parents have a 4-year degree.
  • You are eligible for the Pell Grant, as determined by your FAFSA.
  • OR
  • You are from a diverse cultural or socioeconomic background.
What if I need to submit additional materials after applying?

How do I confirm my interest if I missed checking the box on the application?
