summary for review by teacher) https://www.healthykids.nsw.gov.au/parents-carers/5-ways-to-a-healthy-lifestyle.aspx (Parents) ·
Theoretical Perspective: Learning about living a
healthy lifestyle is extremely important. America is
among the top ten for unhealthiest nations in the world.
Teaching kids how important health is can be valuable to
them so, they understand it is important to be healthy.
Also, if kids live a healthy lifestyle, they will be
more alert and focused in class. Taking care of yourself
and being healthy is scientifically proven to make you
more energetic and alert. This could help students be
more alert and focused when they get to school if they
appreciate the lesson and do their homework. As a
teacher, if you can get the students excited about this
lesson you may help the students become interested in
living healthier which, improves classroom learning.
A. Introductory Activity (if
applicable) The teacher will write down
on the left side of a whiteboard what the students
believe being healthy means. The teacher will ask what
the students believe they need to be healthy and, what
the students think is most necessary to be healthy. This
will help the teacher understand what the students
already know and, get the kids interested in the lesson.
B. Step-by-step (descriptive
outline) To begin, the teacher will
ask the students what they believe it means to be
healthy. The teacher will also ask if the students know
some of the main things needed to live a healthy
lifestyle. The teacher will write down what the students
think about being healthy on one side of the board.
After the students finish participating in the
discussion, they will receive a handout that will guide
them to completing the activity. The worksheet will
guide students to the website and, help guide them
through the activity. When students finish exploring the
steps in the activity they will gather as a class for
another group discussion. The discussion will test what
the students have learned after participating in the
interactive activity. The teacher will write down what
the students are saying right next to the introductory
activity. By doing this, the students will be able to
compare and see what they have learned about being
healthy. The students will also be able to see how their
understanding of what it means to be healthy has
increased after the activity. After the students do
this, they will get a worksheet from the teacher to test
if they really understand what is essential for being
healthy. The worksheet will provide the teacher with the
knowledge if her students understood the website and
lesson. If students participated in the interactive
activity and group discussion, then they will understand
the worksheet. The worksheet is for the teacher to see
if she needs to review and, to make sure the students
participated in the interactive activity with
attentiveness. If the students participated then they
will complete all the objectives and, be able to answer
the questions related to the objectives on the
worksheet. C. Closure After having the discussion
and making the students complete the work sheet, the
teacher will show another link. The link contains a list
of eight healthy habits for kids. The link is found
above and says students in parenthesis next to it. By
having the teacher show the students this website and
talking about it the students will get a good wrap up of
the lesson. The image will tie together everything
talked about during the lesson and, the teacher can ask
if the students have any questions. The homework
assignment will then be explained and handed to the
kids. A letter will be attached to the homework
assignment explaining the lesson to the parents and,
containing the link specified above. The link will
contain more information on living a healthy life and,
will open their eyes to what it really takes to be
healthy. Thus, leading to parents motivating their kids
to become healthier and lead more healthy lives. D. Adaptations for
different learners (i.e. non-native speakers,
struggling readers or math phobic learners, students
with poor study skills) Students who struggle to
read can ask the teacher to read the directions to them.
Also, the teacher could read out loud the directions as
students go through the activity. The steps are the same
so, saying them out loud can help students know what
they are doing when they go through the activity. E. Homework Students will receive a
handout of a log that has a checklist to see if they
participate in a healthy life style. The handout will be
for a week and contain four items. The students will
check off if they had water that day, if they ate three
meals that day, if they exercised away from school or
for at least thirty minutes, and if they got at least
eight hours of sleep. Parents will also be sent this
website link so, they can also see the benefits of
helping their kids live healthier lives. Parents will be
able to explore the website and, this will hopefully
make them want to make sure their kids do their
worksheet. Parents may also become interested in helping
their own family live healthier and, involving the
parents can help make them feel involved in helping
their kids learning. The best part is that it also helps
make their kids healthier too. https://www.healthykids.nsw.gov.au/parents-carers/5-ways-to-a-healthy-lifestyle.aspx (Parents)
A. How/ when will you
determine if you have met your objectives? Determining when the
objectives are met will be done by giving the students
an exercise after they complete the website activity.
The exercise will begin with a discussion to see the
difference in what the students understand about being
healthy after the interactive exercise. Then, the
students will be given a worksheet with questions that
the teacher can use to assess if the students fully
understand what they did on the interactive website. The
questions will be geared toward seeing if the students
achieved the objectives of the lesson. ·
Please list each of your
stated objectives for the lesson. Then demonstrate how
you will document successful completion for each. 1.
The student will be able to
see four essentials needed to create a healthy
lifestyle. 2.
Students will be able to
see what essentials they need more than others. 3.
Students will be able to
determine if the lives they currently live are healthy.
All three if the objectives
will be determined successful by how the students answer
the questions in the handout. All three objectives are
covered in a question on the handout. The teacher will
assess the handout to determine if the students
understood the lesson and got something out of it. The
discussion will also help reinforce the answers to the
objectives so, students are better set up to answer the
objectives. The students should be able to complete the
answers to the objectives on the worksheet.
