President Linda Thompson was recently awarded the Inclusive Leader Award in the Health and Wellness category from the nonprofit organization GlobalMindED based in Denver, Colorado.

GlobalMindED’s mission is to close the equity gap by creating a capable, diverse talent pipeline with programs, content and courses for students from the least resourced backgrounds through connections to role models, mentors, internships, experiences and jobs that make them employment worthy, promotion ready and financially fit to navigate a hierarchical world. GlobalMindED serves low-income students, returning adults seeking badges and credentials, and first-generation college students.

In accepting the award, Thompson emphasized the importance of practicing a humanistic approach when educating and inspiring students. Thompson also spoke of the significance of enlightening students to become critical thinkers and shaping a critically engaged mindset that contributes to the betterment of their communities. Thompson also reinforced the importance of creating a diverse and inclusive environment, where all members of communities can thrive.

“The process of identifying and fixing disparities within our healthcare systems cannot be done in silos. It will take partnerships between government, providers, business, and academia to collectively form foundational alliances to reverse disparities. I am proud to have devoted a significant part of my career working to build these partnerships. I hope my efforts have led to more positive outcomes in our communities and I thank GlobalMindED for partnering with me to advance our shared goals,” she said.

President Thompson was presented the award at the Inclusive Leader Award ceremony at the Hyatt Regency in Denver on June 17.
