For every student, the first swim lesson is scary. The anxiety level is usually heightened and extended over a longer period of time for this age group. This app Breathe, Think, Do provides a fun way for anxious first time swim students to learn how to build skills for swim class. A de-escalation technique is taught through a ”Breathe with the Monster” activity to help students practice taking deep breaths to calm down. Practicing deep breaths is also a major part of learning early swimming strokes and underwater swimming. It also includes a parents section with tips and strategies for dealing with emotions that come up for children in early swim lessons such as
coping with separation, encouraging independence, strategies for persistence and overcoming mistakes when learning a new skill is frustrating.
