Due to the lack of space, some passengers slept in the shallop (a large ship's boat, stored on the gun deck). Others had the ships' carpenter build them a cabin or bunk.  Here, they could place their hammocks to sleep on, cooking pots, clothing and other everyday items.  Personal items were stored  in the hold where there was privacy.
One of the other passengers is trying to write a letter to a loved one still in England, please help him by answering his question: The Mayflower was a:
a) passenger ship
b) cruise liner

c) merchant ship
