Hi! I’m Terrance Smith, and welcome to my website. I teach 3rd grade at Bayside Elementary in Massachusetts. This site is open to everyone, students, parents, and teachers from all over the world! You will find helpful links for parents such as, “How to cut down on screen time” and “How to help with homework”. For kids we have links to educational games and websites to help you learn. For teachers I have some of my own lesson plans, and plans I find very useful. Don’t forget to check out or new class pet (R.I.P Pibble), our most common food allergens and how to cook around them, and our art gallery.
A little bit about me...
As I said, my name is Terrance Smith. I grew up in Salisbury, DE with my mother and my 6 siblings, I know, that's a lot! From a young age I knew I wanted to be a teacher, and I followed in my older brother’s footsteps and I was the 3rd in my family to graduate high school and pursue a higher education. I decided to get away from home and go to UMASS because MA has great teachers and teacher education. I graduated and went on to teach at various school districts but I found the public schools where I worked were draining and filled with state standards. I felt I wasn’t connecting with my student over the materials so I decided to get trained in the Montessori Method. I have a little informational blurb later, but no, I am not teaching “The Montessori Way” I just try to use those values in my class and make my lesson plans more inclusive and student centered.
The Montessori Method
The Montessori Method of education, developed by Maria Montessori, is a child-centered educational approach based on scientific observations of children from birth to adulthood. Montessori's method has been used for over 100 years in many parts of the world.
