Kid Heroes Theme | Reading Game. (n.d.). Retrieved from http://www.roomrecess.com/mobile/KidHeroesTheme/play.html YouTube video - https://youtu.be/LUngH-qQGAk
A. Introductory- In the introduction section of the lesson, I will begin by explaining how stories have themes and a theme is the message that the author wants you to take away from the reading. I will then go on explaining how movies have themes as well. I then will show a video of Disney movies about theme. https://youtu.be/LUngH-qQGAk I will have students share out other stories they have read or movies they have watched which give examples of themes. (10 minutes) B. Step-by-step- For the step by step section of this lesson, I will group students together in pairs and have them get the computers and go to this website, http://www.roomrecess.com/mobile/KidHeroesTheme/play.html . As they are going to this website, I will hand out the worksheets. Then, I will model how to do a story and pull details that contribute to the theme which we will fill in the first example on the worksheet. I will ask students to do the next two examples on their own. If they finish they can do another example. (20 minutes) C. Closure- For the closure of the class, I will ask students to share what details they wrote and ask them to share what are some lessons they took away from the story. (10 minutes) D. Adaptations for different learners- -Have the story selection read to them. -Have the theme words pretaught. -Have the selections printed in large print. -Have the children who take them longer to do only one example (i.e. non-native speakers, struggling readers or math phobic learners, students with poor study skills)
- The teacher will assess the worksheet to see if the students were able to pick the theme and find details that contributes to the theme. - The teacher will access the worksheet to see if the students were able to identify the character(s) in the story. |
