THE ADDICTION COUNSELOR EDUCATION PROGRAM

ACE-H (Online Hybrid/Competency Based)
ADDICTION COUNSELOR EDUCATION WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT
CADC Certificate Program

Description
In March 2020, Westfield State University was awarded a $200,000 grant by Commonwealth Corporation to partner with community agencies to design and deliver a hybrid competency-based addiction counselor education program. This newly designed program helps employers to identify employees who have the potential to meet workforce needs by becoming a Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (CADC). To meet the critical need for certified Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors, and in response to the opioid crisis in Western Mass (Hampden, Berkshire, Hampshire, and Franklin Counties), this region of the state has been labeled Ground Zero for Opioid Addiction.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports projected employment opportunities for substance-abuse counselors will grow at a rate of 22% through 2028.
