Athlete and activist Corey John Pooler received the President’s Award for Excellence in Leadership last spring, along with five other Westfield State students.
Corey John Pooler ’20 would rather better hundreds of other lives than focus on his own. It’s a way of being that he adopted from his parents, teachers, and coaches in Middleborough, where he grew up.
Ramirez began teaching as an adjunct professor in 2015, and that path led to his current position as the assistant professor of graphic design and animation for the Art Department.

Each year, the department—known as the “Comm” department—hosts many events for alumni, including staples such as a farm-to-table dinner, the Henry Wefing Memorial Golf Classic (known as “The WEF”) and a Home’COMM’ing reception. The goal is to keep alumni connected to the University, something Professor Suzanne Boniface ’92 knows much about.
At the start of an 11-month mission commitment, Haley Batchelder ’16 found herself helping children with disabilities in an orphanage.
