VoiceThread allows users to post or upload different types of media (documents, slide presentations, videos or photos) either from a website or from the user’s computer. Comments can be added using a microphone, webcam, mobile phone, or keyboard. A VoiceThread animation is then created, which the author can share by sending the link or by embedding into an existing website. Viewers use the same tool to add their own comments.
The Flash-based VoiceThread animation now contains the original content and the commentary on it. These group conversations are collected in one place and do not require users to install any software. By providing an easy to use format for showing visual media and adding verbal explanations, VoiceThread can enhance distance learning, particularly for classes that rely on demonstration.
