Westfield State celebrates the initiation of nurses into the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing at the virtual Induction Ceremony on November 12.
Undergraduate BSN students Tess Bilodeau, Lauren Blakeley, Isabella Castro, Fiona Cioch, Samantha Florio, Jessica Fontaine, Hannah Griswold, Shelby Houle, Kaitlyn Kelly, Catherine Plante, Hannah Swanick, Hallee Tripp, and Jordan Wytrych were all inducted to the honor society.
“The qualifications to be inducted into Sigma are stringent and students who have been invited can be proud of this accomplishment,” said Dr. Marcia Scanlon, associate professor and chair of the Department of Nursing & Allied Health. “These students are deeply vested and care about the future of healthcare delivery.”
Founded in 1922 by six nurses, Sigma Theta Tau’s mission is about “developing nurse leaders anywhere to improve healthcare everywhere.”
“Sigma is a global nursing honor society with over 500 chapters,” said Scanlon. “Induction into Sigma is significant because it demonstrates a commitment by students that is in the alignment of the society’s mission to advance nursing excellence through scholarship, leadership, and service.”
