University donates furniture to assist Boston-area non-profit

A significant collection of used furniture recently donated by the University was valued at nearly $135,000, and diverted more than 56,000 lbs. from the waste stream.

Westfield State partnered with the Massachusetts State College Building Authority and The Furniture Trust to donate a collection of furniture and supplies from its residence halls and offices. The donation, directed to Children’s Services of Roxbury & Household Goods, Inc., was assessed fair market value of $134,794 and weighed 56,710 lbs., according to a letter from Maribeth Geraghty, finance manager of The Furniture Trust.
