Q&As with author of “Dreamland”

The University host two live Q&A sessions via Skype with Sam Quinones, author of Dreamland: The True Tale of America’s Opiate Epidemic, October 9 and 10.

First-year students were assigned this book as their first-year read and all student were invited to attend the sessions.

Dreamland focuses on true accounts of the opioid crises to illustrate its overwhelming scale over America, “From a small town in Mexico to the boardrooms of Big Pharma to main streets nationwide, an explosive and shocking account of addiction in the heartland of America,” reads the description of the book.

This work was received significant recognition, including the NBCC Award for General Nonfiction and a feature among both Amazon’s and The Boston Globe‘s Best Books of 2015 lists.

Quinones lends his background to his story, with 32 years of experience as a reporter, including 10 with the Los Angeles Times. During these Q&A events, he addressed his writing and reporting career, as well as the opioid epidemic and the characterization of myths surrounding addiction. A freelance journalist, Quinones is currently writing another book.
