Two students receive scholarships from Springfield Fire Department

Ten recipients of the Lt. Edward J. and Mary Cullen Sullivan College Scholarship Fund.

On November 21 the Springfield Fire Department Awarded 10 scholarships worth $5,000 each to the children of past and present firefighters. Two Westfield State University students, Aliah Barrows and Kristina Conant, were among those awarded. Barrows, a sophomore from Springfield, is majoring in communication and Conant, a future first-year student from East Longmeadow, will enroll in the spring 2019 semester to pursue a degree in biology.

The Lt. Edward J. and Mary Cullen Sullivan College Scholarship Fund was created by the estate of Charles O. Sullivan, a Springfield native, who left money in his will for the creation of a scholarship in his parents’ names.

Barrows, Conant and the eight other recipients were presented their awards during a brief ceremony at the Raymond M. Sullivan Public Safety Complex in Springfield. Mayor Domenic Sarno, Fire Commissioner Bernard J. Calvi, and James J. Moran (a representative of the Sullivan family) presented the awards.
