Nursing Pinning Ceremony celebrated in hybrid-virtual format

Valedictorian Hannah Griswold '21

The University celebrated its Nursing Pinning Ceremony on May 12 in a hybrid-virtual format. Thirty-one members of the Class of 2021 received their pins.

Sue Scott, Ph.D., assistant professor of nursing, was selected by the graduating class to give the keynote presentation. Scott told the graduates, “You are unique and no one in the whole world has the same gifts that you have. Because of that, each of you has a unique opportunity to make a difference in the lives of your patients and to make the world a better place.”

Hannah Griswold received the Department’s Academic Excellence Award for earning a high overall GPA, combined with outstanding educational growth, and commitment to intellectual development and lifelong learning.

The Nursing Department’s Leadership Award was given to Kait Kelly for demonstrating outstanding professionalism throughout the program as a leader and mentor, while making significant contributions to the department, student nurse’s organizations, and to the greater community.

Selected by the students in the nursing program and representing the graduate they believe best exemplifies the art and science of nursing and as a caring professional whom they would want to take care of one of their own family members, the Department’s Spirit of Nursing Award was presented to Hannah Griswold, who was also selected by her peers to address the audience.

The Baystate Health Scholarship for Nursing was awarded to Lydia Natal. Chosen from the graduates employed by Baystate Health System, the scholarship recipient has demonstrated a strong academic record and nursing philosophy that is consistent with Baystate’s mission and values.
