Student orientation will have new approach

First-year students participate in the Emerging Leaders retreat.

Westfield State’s traditional June Orientation Program won’t take place in person, given the COVID-19 pandemic, and alternative plans are in the works to welcome the incoming Class of 2024.

The University purchased online orientation software that was set to be unveiled this year, and a recorded online component will be added to the program. Returning students will continue to be trained as orientation leaders; each incoming student will be assigned to a leader through the fall semester. During the summer, leaders will connect with students three times using the Microsoft Teams feature of the University’s email system. Options to connect include live video, posted content, and group chat.

The in-person component of the orientation program is slated for the start of the new academic year. Its content and timing will be announced at a later date.
