Alumni square off in Westfield mayoral debate

State Senator Donald Humason Jr. ’89 and Westfield Police Captain Michael McCabe ’84 participated in a debate on the University’s Dever Stage Oct. 29, in advance of the Nov. 5 election to decide the City of Westfield’s new mayor.

Sponsored by The Republican and The Westfield News, the event involved the candidates answering questions about their candidacy and the future of the City of Westfield, including a few submitted by The Republican‘s readership and the more than 350 students, faculty, staff, and local residents in attendance.

Moderated by Ray Hershel of WGBY’s “Connecting Point – The State We’re In” and longtime TV journalist with WesternMassNews, questions were asked by Hope Tremblay, assistant managing editor of The Westfield News and Michaela Piche, a Westfield State senior communication major from Martha’s Vineyard.

The event was broadcast live in Westfield on local cable and streamed online and to an alternate viewing location in Scanlon Hall.

The election to decide the City’s next mayor will be held Tuesday, Nov. 5.
