Creative decorations

Some members of the University's summer painting crew.

The University’s student painting crew completed its summer by painting some of the campus fire hydrants with some decorative themes.

Each summer the University hires local residents, including some WSU students, to join the crew under the supervision of Painter II Fred DeChristopher. According to Building Maintenance Supervisor II Angelo Mazza this year’s team completed its projects (residence halls, classrooms, parking lots, sports fields, etc.) two weeks ahead of schedule, so he asked the members of the crew if they wanted to paint something fun.

Using numerous campus fire hydrants as a canvas, the painters brought some color, creativity, and life to some often over-looked objects. Several are sports themed or representative of the building’s purpose. As you make your way around campus, keep your eyes out for these artistic gems.

Among this year’s crew were Westfield State students Fiona Cioch, Lydia Kinsman, Eli Johnson, Sam LaBombard, Mia McDonald, Kristen Mitton, Dan Ramsey, and Jorge Rodriguez.
