Gregory Maguire, author of The New York Times bestselling “Wicked Years” series, delighted an audience on Dever Stage during his campus visit February 20.
Maguire’s book, Wicked, Son of a Witch, is the inspiration for the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, “Wicked.”
The highly accomplished author and guest speaker was invited to campus as part of the University’s special topics course “Wizardry of Oz,” offered through the Ethnic & Gender Studies Department and team taught by Professors Frank Giuliano, Claudia Ciano-Boyce, and Margot Hennessy.
Maguire provided a spirited reading of a scene from one of his novels, then shared a PowerPoint presentation about how his love of and talent for writing and illustrating grew throughout his life and career, complete with images and explanations of his works, beginning in elementary school.
He closed the session by signing copies of his books and taking photos with students enrolled in the “Wizardry of Oz” course.
