Cheryl Bassett ’88, director of human trafficking training initiatives for the McCain Institute for International Leadership, received the 2018 Alumna of the Year award on Nov. 8.
Bassett visited campus as a guest speaker and presented her year-long field work on the impact of human trafficking in major cities and towns across the United States. In recognition of her work, she was honored by the Westfield State Alumni Association as Alumna of the Year.
She spent 28 years working for the federal government, and most recently served as the Attaché for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) stationed in Brasilia, Brazil, among numerous positions throughout her career.
Bassett was inducted into the University’s Criminal Justice Hall of Fame in 2017.
