Celebrate LatinX Heritage Month

The University will celebrate LatinX Heritage Month with a series of events through October 16. This year’s team for the celebration is Viva la Raza, which means “long live the race.” Organized through the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, students are welcome to attend.

Tuesday, Sept. 25, Lunch on me!, 1-2:30 p.m., Ely Lobby – Sample fare from Santiago’s Family Restaurant, featuring Latin American cuisine.

Thursday, Sept. 27, Movie Night, 7 p.m., Owls Nest – Pelo Malo-Junior, a nine-year old boy, lives in a shoddy apartment in Caracas with his mother and baby brother. He has “pelo mato,” a Hispanic term for curly, unruly hair, which he constantly attempts to straighten.

Saturday, Sept. 29, Unity Fest Carnival, Noon-4 p.m., Springfield College Green – Limited seating for transportation. Sign-up in Ely 208, departing from Scanlon Hall at 11 a.m.

Tuesday, Oct. 16, Afro-Latinidad, Who gets to claim it?, 6 p.m., Loughman Living Room – Featuring a mini-documentary and discussion.
