Lesson Plan
Unit Topic: Environmental Science
Grade level: Third
Lesson Topic: The Water Cycle
Lesson Objective: The students will identify what The Water
Cycle is and the steps of the Water Cycle. After a class
discussion the students will be paired up to complete a handout.
After they complete the handout they will complete The Water
Cycle online Quiz.
Instructional Techniques:
-Class Discussion
-Students will be given a worksheet that will help them complete
the computer quiz. (Group Activity)
-Computer quiz (individual)
Instructional Materials:
-Computer/ IPad
-Handout, Pencil
Theoretical Perspective:
This information is important for my students to learn because
we are going to be learning about our ecosystem and water is the
most important component of the ecosystem.
Procedure:
A. We will have a class discussion on the Water Cycle. I will
first start by doing an overview of the Water Cycle and the
steps on it. I will ask my students if they know anything about
the Water Cycle and the if they know the stages. It will be more
of a lecture with a video at the end. After I go through the
stages of the Water Cycle and make sure the students have a good
understanding on what the Water Cycle is I will pair my students
up to complete a handout.
B. The handout will be passed out to the groups of two. They
will complete the handout together and help each other out if
they need it. The handout will give the students a better
understanding of the steps of the Water Cycle. I will go over
the directions of the handout and walk around to see if any of
the students have questions. When the students are done
completing the handout they will go to a computer or Ipad (which
ever is available). The students will do the online quiz
independently. While they are completing the quiz the students
will refer back to their handout to see if they got anything
wrong because the questions on the quiz will be similar. After
they complete the online quiz the students will sit quietly and
take out their independent reading book to wait for all of the
students to be done.
C. After the students are all done we will have another class
discussion about the quiz and handout. The students will be
asked what the steps are of the Water Cycle. The students will
hand in their handout for a grade.
Evaluation:
A. Did the students understand the water cycle?
B. Were the students able to answer the questions about the
water cycle on the handout/ quiz?
In order to make sure that the objective is met; I will grade
the students handout that they filled out with the quiz. This
will give me an understanding if the students understood the
water cycle because the handout was similar to the quiz.
