Materials
- “Field Trip Around the World” worksheet
- “Field Trip Around the World” interactive website
Theoretical
Perspective- It is important for students to learn about the seven
continents so that they can grasp a better sense of the world around them. They
will learn how to identify each of the continents based on their
characteristics and how they appear on a map. After this lesson, they will have
basic knowledge of other cultures as well as map skills, which will be crucial
in their future lives.
Procedure
- We will begin the lesson by asking students if they
can name all of the seven continents.
- After having this class discussion, we will teach the
students about some of the landmarks and characteristics of each continent. This
will also include us labeling a map of the seven continents, which will also be
given to the students as a reference.
- Next, the students will independently navigate through
the “Field Trip Around the World” website. While using the website, students
will be given a worksheet that corresponds to each question. On the worksheet,
the students need to label each of the seven continents, as well as write two
important facts that they learned for each continent.
- The students will then hand in the worksheet after
they have completed the website. Questions will be answered to clarify the
material they have learned so far.
- All students are encouraged to go back onto the
website and explore the external links to learn more about the continents.
- To conclude the lesson, on the following day, the
students will be given the final assessment. For the assessment, the students
are given each of the seven continents. Their job is to label each one. On the
second half of the page, students will be asked to write 3-4 sentences
describing each of the continents. This includes using landmarks,
characteristics, and any other information that was learned from the day
before.
Adaptations
- Students who need more help will be assigned to work
with a partner during the website activity, so that they can ask questions and
have extra support.
- Students who have trouble taking notes during the lecture
will be given a printed copy of the important information.
- The interactive website is not a timed activity.
Students who need longer time will be allowed more time.
Evaluation
- We will determine if we have met our objectives if the students are able
to complete the final assessment with limited trouble. If the students are able
to label each of the seven continents and describe each one in three to four
sentences, then we have met our goals. Also, if the students were able to
complete the “Field Trip Around the World” worksheet successfully, they have
all of the tools needed to complete the final assessment.
