The Food Pyramid

Introduction

This Lesson will help students learn about the food pyramid, food groups, and what food is healthy to eat.

With the few worksheets the students will be able to see what foods they are eating and how healthy they are.

Grade Level 2nd.

Objectives

The students will learn about each food groups and know what good food is and what foods will keep them healthy.

The students also will learn the importance of eating healthy while they’re young.

Materials

Word search worksheets

 What should I eat today worksheet

Food Pyramid Chart, and picture

Worksheet of what the students eat daily

Head phones for blast off game

Mypyramid.gov web site.

Procedure –Day 1

Review knowledge about the food pyramid

Give the students a chart to fill out about the foods they eat for each meal; fill out blank food pyramid worksheet.

 Begin discussion about the food pyramid by using http://www.mypyramid.gov/pyramid/index.html to have them thinking about the food pyramid and the food groups.

For Home Work the students will complete the word search worksheet.

 Procedure- Day 2

Briefly review mypyramid.gov website again

Brieftly go over the Word Search Work sheet and answer any questions the students have.

Then have the students go to the website titled Name that Food Group. Have them complete the questions about each food group

Then have them play the activity- Blast off.

For Homework the students will complete the What Should I Eat Today Worksheet?

Closure

 Review the What Should I Eat Today worksheet and make sure the students can distinguish what foods are healthy and good for them.

Answer any questions students have.

Evaluation

The objectives will be met after the students have completed the  online activity, What Should I Eat Today work sheet, word search worksheet, and fill in the chart and food pyramid of what they eat.

This will allow the students to see if they are eating healthy foods and if they are getting enough foods in each group.
