The USS Constituion is a wooden hulled warship of the United States Navy. President George Washington named it after the Constitution of the United States of America. This warship is the oldered commissioned naval vessel that is still afloat in the world today. In 1797, The Constitution was launched as one of the six warships to be the Navy's capital ships. It was built in Boston, Ma at Edmund Hartts shipyard. This ship is most famous for the War of 1812, against Great Britian where she captured numerous merchant ships and defeated 5 British Warships. Today, this ship is used to promote the understanding of the Navy's role in war and peace. There are many public events that take place and educational programs. |
