A. Introductory Activity: "KWL" chart as a class. Get students thinking about what they know about butterflies, and what they want to know about butterflies.
B. Step-by-step
- KWL chart on the rug. Have the students raise their hands to contribute. (Only complete the K and W chart at this time.)
- Read "The very Hungry Caterpillar". Ask questions throughout the book for the students to make connections, or ask their own questions.
- Teach the lesson about butterflies and clarify any question the students have.
- Students work individually to complete the quiz on the computer.
- Have everyone meet back up on the rug to complete the L column, and discuss everything they learned from this lesson.
C. Closure: Wrap up lesson by completing the "L" chart as a class.
D. Adaptations for different learners: Questions could also be read aloud to students who need to be verbally prompted.
E. Homework: No Homework.
