Theodore Roosevelt

In 1898 the Spanish-American war broke out and Roosevelt joined the cavalry corps known as the Rough Riders.
He led a daring charge up San Juan Hill and won the battle.
He return to New York a war hero and then became Mayor of New York.
Roosevelt was an independent leader and didn't follow party policies. To stop his reforms other politicians voted him to be William McKinley's vice president hoping that would stop his reforms.
Theodore worked hard trying to help to get McKinley in office.
Once McKinley was in office it wasn't long before Roosevelt became president as McKinley was assassinated.
