Mount Rushmore

The first work began in 1927 when they used dynamite to blow apart the granite leaving a thin layer of six inches.
The fine inches were taken off using a process called honeycombing and it left the surface as smooth as a sidewalk.
Work first started with Washington. First the shape of his face was carved out and then the features were added in after.
To the right of Washington they started Jefferson. They realized that the granite was badly cracking so they blew up that sculpture and redid it to the left of Washington.

What tool did they use first before they could start carving?
