Thomas Jefferson

While in office Jefferson preferred to live a relaxed style of life and often greeted guests in homespun cloths and his slippers.
In 1782 he lost his beloved wife, Martha Skelton, during child birth and was left to raise his two daughters on his own.
After being president he retired to Monticello his home and then helped establish the University of Virginia.
Evidence shows that after Martha's death he may have had a relationship with a slave named Sally Hemings.
Jefferson died on July 4, 1826. Exactly fifty years after signing the Declaration of Independence.
