Abraham Lincoln

Lincoln was born very poor in a dirt cabin in Kentucky. He was self-educated and enjoyed hard work and books.
At one point he was a soldier, he taught himself law and held a seat in the Illinois state legislature as a Whig Politician.
In 1847 he became a member of the House of Representatives where he disagreed with the U.S. war with Mexico.
Next he quit the Whig party and joined the Republician party. He ran for senate in but lost the election to Stephen Douglas.
It was his debating style and performnace against Douglas that made him a contender for the 1860 Republician nomination for president.

The picture above is of this party that Lincoln used to belong to before he became a Republician?
