  • Students will be able to answer specific questions in regard to the stages of a butterflies life.

Instructional Technique:

  • Informational Video on the Life Cycle of  a Butterfly, KWL Chart, Group Work, Online Assessment.

Instructional Materials:

  • KWL Chart

  • Educational Video on the Life Cycle of a Butterfly

  • Computers

  • Sea Monkey website online quiz

Theoretical Perspective:

  • This is an important concept for first graders to learn because it introduces the concept of life cycles.

  • This is a great pre requisite for students to comprehend due to the fact that students are learning about different life cycles of animals.

Procedure:

Intro-

  • This lesson will begin with activating students prior knowledge on the rug by asking them what they already know about butterflies. I will instruct students to turn and talk with a peer in order to get new perspectives from one another.

  • After this is done, I will ask students to share what they know about the life cycle of a butterfly.

Development-

  • Then, as a whole group, we will fill out a KWL chart so that I will be able to determine what students already know about the life cycle of a butterfly.

  • When we complete the Know and Want to Know section of the KWL chart, I will show the students an educational video of the life cycle of a butterfly.

  • After the video is shown, I will distribute the students computers and instruct them to move from the rug to their tables.

Closure-

  • Once students are back at their tables, we will log into our computers and I will give students instructions to access the website where they will be taking an online quiz on the life cycle of a butterfly.

  • When they are finished with their quiz, we will have a whole group discussion on what we have learned throughout this lesson.

Evaluation:

  1. How/when will you determine if you have met your objectives?

    1. I will determine if I have met my objectives by analyzing the quiz results from the SeaMonkey online quiz. If students scores were lower than expected, I will see what they struggled with the most and focus on reteaching this portion of the life cycle of a butterfly.
