Lesson topic/theme: Spelling and punctuation

Lesson Objectives: 

1) Students will be able to recognize a problem in spelling, grammar, or punctuation.

2) Students will be able to fix the problem and explain why it was incorrect.

3) Students will be able to understand and explain how the mistakes affected the sentence

Instructional materials:

Procedure:

1. Introductory activity 

• Teachers should give mini pre lessons on spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

• Teachers will have two examples on the board, and allow students to raise their hands to try and fix the sentences.

2. Step-by-step

• Students then will go on to the website and try the activity for themselves.

• Students are allowed to work in small pairs or groups, and allowed to ask questions to the teacher.

• Students will record on their worksheet each sentence and then circle or indicate in some way what they corrected on the website

• After 15-20 minutes the teacher will gather the classroom as a large group, again to see where students are struggling and what specific part they need help on.

3. Closure

• After discussing it as a class, the teacher will ask the students to share sentences they got incorrect and write them on the board, and the students will work through how to fix it as a class.

• At the end of the unit, the students will be assigned to work on this website again and see how they have improved.

Evaluation:

Objectives: 

• Learn how to recognize spelling and grammar mistakes in sentences.

• Be able to correct the mistakes the students have found.

     How will the teacher determine the objectives were met?

• The teacher will give students sentences with mistakes and have them correct it, after using the website. If the students are able to recognize and correct mistakes outside of the website, then the objectives have been met.
