Lesson Plan One
Unit Topic or Theme: Fractions
Grade: 3rd
Lesson Topic or Theme: graphically
representing fractions
Lesson Objectives:
The students will be able to accurately
match at least seven fractions with a graphical
representation.
The students will be able to give an
explanation for why they choose the graphical representation
that they did.

Handout with directions and graphs
Pencils
Color pencils
White board
White board markers
Cardboard pizza pie with the slices
cutout.
Line paper
Procedure:
Introductory Activity
Give a piece of lined paper to each
student.
Ask the students a word problem using
the cardboard pizza pie with cutouts. The word problem goes if
Johnny eats 3/8 of the pizza. How much of the pizza pie would
need to be taken away to represent the remaining amount of
pizza?
The teacher will show the graphical
representations that the students came up with and show ask
what the class thinks of the representation.
Step-by-step
The teacher will hand out the students’
laptops
The students will open the laptop
The teacher will give the students the
handout
The students will follow the directions
on the handout and complete the handout
The teacher will walk around and assist
the students if they have any questions about the handout.
The students will raise their hand once
they've completed the handout.
The teacher will collect the handout
and give the student a lined piece of paper for the closing
activity.
Closure
The teacher will draw on the white
board two graphical representations of 6/8 and 4/8.
The teacher will ask the students to
write on a white lined paper, what the fractions would be for
the graphical representations on the white board.
The teacher will remind the students to
reduce as needed.
Once the students have finished, they
will hand in the lined paper with their answers.
Evaluation:
How/ when will you determine if you
have met your objectives?
The students will be able to accurately
match at least seven fractions with a graphical
representation.
I will demonstrate that the students
have learned how to match at least seven fractions accurately
with the use of graphical representations. I will have them
record when they got the fraction correct or incorrect by
making a mark on the handout. This will show how many times it
took a particular student to get the fraction correct.
The students will be able to give an
explanation for why they choose the graphical representation
that they did.
The students will give explanations for
why they choose to represent a fraction the way they did by
explaining in their handout why they choose to represent the
fraction in that way. The students will also have to explain
why the graphical representation for the fractions are correct
if the student gets the fraction wrong on the first try.
Lesson Plan Two
Unit topic/theme: Grammar
Grade: 1
Lesson topic/theme: Spelling and punctuation
Lesson Objectives:
1) Students will be able to recognize a problem in spelling, grammar, or punctuation.
2) Students will be able to fix the problem and explain why it was incorrect.
3) Students will be able to understand and explain how the mistakes affected the sentence

Instruction sheet and worksheet
Pencil
Computer
Procedure:
Introductory activity
Teachers should give mini pre lessons on spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
Teachers will have two examples on the board, and allow students to raise their hands to try and fix the sentences.
Step-by-step
Students then will go on to the website and try the activity for themselves.
Students are allowed to work in small pairs or groups, and allowed to ask questions to the teacher.
Students will record on their worksheet each sentence and then circle or indicate in some way what they corrected on the website
After 15-20 minutes the teacher will gather the classroom as a large group, again to see where students are struggling and what specific part they need help on.
Closure
After discussing it as a class, the teacher will ask the students to share sentences they got incorrect and write them on the board, and the students will work through how to fix it as a class.
At the end of the unit, the students will be assigned to work on this website again and see how they have improved.
Evaluation:
Objectives:
Learn how to recognize spelling and grammar mistakes in sentences.
Be able to correct the mistakes the students have found.
How will the teacher determine the objectives were met?
The teacher will give students sentences with mistakes and have them correct it, after using the website. If the students are able to recognize and correct mistakes outside of the website, then the objectives have been met.
