IGNEOUS ROCKS, ROCK!

 

Hi there! My name is Iggy and I am an Igneous Rock. Funny name right?

I’m here to teach you a little bit about myself and where I come from! You know that hot stuff that comes out of volcanoes? Well, that hot stuff is called magma, which is made out of atoms and molecules of melted minerals. I become formed when magma cools down and gets hard…like a rock! Get it?

It turns out there are over 700 different types of igneous rocks! Yes, you read that right, 700!!! A few of those types include basalt, granite and pumice. You could say I’m a pretty popular guy since about 95% of the upper section of the Earth’s crust is made up of me!
