Meet Lucas, our class pet! He is a
Syrian hamster, also popularly known as the golden
hamster or Teddy Bear Hamster. This hamster is one
of the largest, with an average length of 4” – 7” at
their fully grown age! These hamsters have very
short tails, small eyes and large cheek pouches.
Lucas is 10 months old and is still growing!
Students will take turns feeding him and giving him
water, as well as cleaning out his cage. Lucas sure
can make a big mess! We believe that having a class
pet and taking care of him gives students a sense of
responsibility and commitment. If allowed by parents
and if students are on good behavior they may even
get to bring him home for a night! Lucas is an
important member of our second grade class and he is
very excited to meet you all!
