Sample Lesson Plan


Unit Topic: Science

Grade: 7th

Lesson Topic: Genetics

·      Lesson Objectives: The students will be able to understand how to set up and complete a punnett square.

·       The students will be able to understand that each punnett square will have equal probability of occurring.

 

Instructional Technique:

·      Instructional video

·      Lecture

·      Group work

 

Instructional Materials:

·      Worksheets (Punnet Square practice and online quiz worksheet)

 

Theoretical Perspective:  By learning about genetics students can learn why someone has the hair or eye color they have. They will learn what makes them who they are.

 

Procedure:

 

a.    Introduction: Teacher lecture notes and instructional video

·      The teacher will start the lesson with an introductory lecture notes with basic terms the students will need to understand.

·      After the lecture the teacher will pause and ask the students if they have any questions so far.

b.    Step-by-step:

·      Teacher will project instructional video for the class to watch. www.brainpop.com/health/geneticsgrowthanddevelopment/genetics/

·      As a class the students will take a quiz from the video that they jut watched.

·      After the quiz the teacher will ask the class for questions and clarify any confusion.

c.    Closure

·      Worksheet given out to the class, for students to do individually to see what they have learned from the lesson.

·      After completing the worksheet students will receive another worksheet with instructions to an online quiz.

 

d.    Adaptations:

·      If students are having trouble with the worksheets they are pair up to help each other.

·      If students are still having trouble with the lesson they can put headphones on and re-watch the video and go though the lesson step by step.

·      Objectives:  The students will be able to set up and complete a punnett square. We will determine if the students have met this objective when completing the problem on the worksheet that has them set up a punnett square.

 

·       The students will be able to identity that each punnett square will have equal probability of occurring. We will determine if the students have met their objectives when they complete the punnett square worksheet and answer the questions that follow.

  

·      Concerns or questions: That the students will not understand the lesson, that it will be too complex for the students.
