To start off the class the first thing I
will do as a teacher is have the class all come
together to listen to a story of the life cycle of
a frog called “ Tale of a Tadpole” by Karen
Wallace. As the book was being read I would go
over key terms such as frog eggs, tadpole, frog,
froglet, life cycle, and pond. At the end of the
book there will be discussion about the life cycle
and the habitat of a frog. There will also be a
handout to give to the students that they can keep
and reflect back on. After talking about the life
cycle I will show a short video so the students
can see the life process for themselves. After
this is all done I will announce that our class
will be observing the life cycle of a frog for
ourselves and show them the frog tank with frog
eggs inside. Each day I will have a different
student write in a journal I will provide and
write down the changes they observe with the frog
eggs and draw a picture to go with it.
After the students get a good
understanding of the life cycle we will go on the
computer and go on the website http://www.turtlediary.com/science-games.html and click on
The Life Cycle of a Frog. With this they will
first review the frog’s life cycle with a short
video. After the video it will continue with a few
actives such as labeling the stages of a frog’s
life cycle and a few frog games after you answer a
few questions. After lunch I will pass out a sheet of different pictures of the stages of a frogs life cycle. The class will then have to color, cut, and put the pictures in order to make their own frog life cycle booklet. At the end of the day we will close with a review of the day and I will ask them all the things they have learned today about the life cycle of a frog and each answer they give me I will write it down on a poster board that will be labeled “The Life Cycle of a Frog” and later hung up for everyone to see what they have learned. |
