Instructional Materials:
1.Technology (computer use for the 2 websites)
2.White board for notes on parts of speech.
3.Handout for practice
Theoretical Perspective:
We want students after this lesson to be able to have the right knowledge, along with writing sentence structures with proper parts of speech in them. That way, once they gain their prior knowledge with the parts of speech, they will succeed in communicating with others with using proper grammar in the daily conversations of their lives.
Procedure:
A.Introductory Activity
In the beginning of the lesson of Parts of Speech, Students will go on the website: abcya.com-Parts of Speech Quest. This website will be helpful to students to interact with technology in a way where they will play a game that will guide them into the lesson we are about to teach. It will be a good warm up activity for them to do before the lecture in class and after the pair-share with people around them.
B.Step-by-Step (descriptive outline)
•In the beginning of Parts of Speech Lesson, students will need to be in their seats, turn and talk about the example of a word that has been given to them.
•Once the word has been given, they will turn and talk to the classmates near them and discuss together and pair share their responses to one another.
•The students will then recap and bring their focus to me and share their responses with the teacher.
•After the pair-share warm up, students will go online on the computer for their technology activity with parts of speech (Quest for Parts of Speech).
•This website will allow them to get engaged with the start of the lesson on parts of speech.
•Once they familiarize themselves with the parts of speech, they will recap and get ready for lecture.
•The teacher will write the parts of speech on the white board so that the students can visualize what they will be learning in front of them.
•Once the students have an understanding of the 5 parts of speech (nouns, pronouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives), they will complete a worksheet individually so they can test themselves on what they’ve learned with what they know along with the new information provided to them.
•Students will then use what they know prior to the lesson taught before activity #2, and correct the sentences on the worksheet provided for them to practice individually.
•We will then write the corrected sentences on the white board so students will understand what level they are at (what they already know and what they need to work on)
•After the corrections they will go on the last website and fill out the Mad-lib on abcya.com to quiz themselves in an interactive way with technology and to get out of their seats.
C. Closure
Learning the parts of speech can be done. Some students are struggling a little bit with the parts of speech, but they will get there. The other teacher in the classroom will help them understand how to write the sentences correctly because they were still trying to process the information on the parts of speech in their heads. The advanced students are now working on the complex sentences for the grammar corrections.
Wrap-up/Re-cap questions for students
