This is our class pet Speedy! Speedy is a Red Eared Slider Turtle. He is currently four years old
and can live to be up to 30! He is about 9 inches long and is an omnivore, which means he
likes to eat plants and small creatures, like insects, worms, and small fish. You will see him swimming
a lot during class because he is diurnal, which means that he is active during the day and
sleeps at night, just like you! Red Eared Sliders like to bask in the sun, but since Speedy is in his
tank, he basks under the warm lights. Each week a pair of students will get the responsibility
of caring for Speedy. They will get to feed him and record some data about his habits. Speedy is
looking forward to meeting you all!
