·         Laptop

·       Large moveable clock

Theoretical Perspective

Telling time is an important skill for students to know because it is something they will use for their whole life. This is an important skill because they won’t always have digital clock to check the time, so reading an analog clock is something they should know how to do. Students having a good understanding of how to read an analog clock can only benefit them because they won’t have to feel bad about the fact they can’t read a clock.

Introduction

Throughout this lesson students will be practicing their telling time skills. The students will be completing individual work, both using the laptops and activity sheet. These activities will be testing the students knowledge of telling time and recognizing the relationship between an analog clock and a digital clock.

Procedure

·         The lesson will begin with all the students gathered together sitting on the rug

·         The teacher will start the lesson on reminding all the students about the previous discussions on clocks by using a large handheld clock

·         The teacher will then ask the class questions, like if they remember what the long and short hand mean, what direction the clock moves in, and then give a few example and have the class answer them

·         After the discussion with the students, the teacher then will explain the activities that will be completed during this lesson

·         The students will be ask to get a laptop, go to the assigned site, complete the game and the worksheet, after completing the worksheet the students will put their laptops away and complete another worksheet to assess their time telling skills

·         The teacher then will call a few students at a time to get laptops and to bring them to their seats.

·         After all the students are seated and have their computers on, the teacher then will use her overhead projector to guide the students to the website – the students will go to the schools home page, go to the library tab, library resources, and the link will be listed below

·         Once all the students are there the teacher will then handout the worksheet that will be completed alongside the website

·         The students then will complete the worksheet

·         Once a student finishes they will be directed to put their laptop back, and be given the clock activity to finish by the end of the lesson

·         Once all students are completed with the website activity and the clock assessment activity, the class then will be directed to meet back on the rug.

·         Once all the student are on the rug the teacher then will begin the closing discussion

·         The teacher will ask the students if there was anything they still feel is unclear or confusing, and if there are any strategies that could help improve everyone’s telling time skills.

Adaption’s for Different Learners

·         Students can use the small moveable hand clocks to have a more concrete idea when completing the work sheets

·         Students can take advantage of the large clock on the wall that has the both hands labeled, the direction of the clock, and the indicates the 15minute, 30minute, and 45minute marks

·         Some students can complete only odd numbers on the clock reading worksheet

Evaluation

·         The students should be able know the difference between the hour and minute hands of analog clock’

o   I will know the students have reached this objective because in the beginning of the lesson I asked the students what the difference is, and throughout the lesson they will have to know the difference to match the times correctly and read the clocks to write the correct time being shown.

·         The students should be able to make the connect between analog and digital clocks

o   I will know when students reach this objective because the students will be able to understand and explain that if the digital clock says a certain time then the analog clock with be the same time, and the same for the other way.

·         The students should be able to read an analog clock when ask

  • I will know when students can read an analog clock because they get most to all of the answers on the clock reading worksheet correct.
