Our new class pet Fluffy is a hampster! It is our hope that Fluffy will help teach our students the importance of responsibility and accountability and form them to be more responsible and accountable for their actions. By allowing each student to take home Fluffy for a school week, we hope to establish closer relationships with our students based off of trust. Fluffy will help our students with becoming well-rounded individuals and mature members of a small community (our class). Fluffy further enhances our classroom by acting as a form of pet therapy, which allows students to use Fluffy to help them improve their interpersonal and social skills, mental and emotional state of minds, and cognitive performance. Through petting and caring for Fluffy students are able to relax and form close, personal connections with the hamster which helps to establish trust and therefore helps relieve their minds.
Rules and expectations
for Fluffy:
- Each student will be assigned one school week (5 days) in which they will be able to take Fluffy home with them!
- Over the course of those five days, students will be expected to care for and attend to the needs of Fluffy. In other words, the students will be required, to feed, keep up on maintaing a clean cage, grooming, and playing with Fluffy regularly.
- Often wash your hands BEFORE AND AFTER handling Fluffy as for it helps to contain and limit the germs being spread to and from Fluffy.
- Fluffy is to remain in her cage as for when set free she often gets lost and disgruntled, causing her much confusion.
- Those students, parents or guardians who are allergic to Fluffy, pet dandruff, fur, or are sensitive to other components, alternative arrangements and ideas for how to offer these advantages to those who cannot, or are not allow to care for Fluffy, will be deteremined by one of us teachers, on a case-by-case basis AFTER having been consulted by the student and parents or guardians of the student(s) themselves.
- Students are encouraged to take full advantage of Fluffy and what she offers.
