Title: The Learning
of Conjunctions Unit topic/theme:
Grammar/ Sentence Structure Grade: Second Specific lesson
topic/theme: Conjunctions Lesson Objectives: 1. The students will be able to
correctly select the correct conjunction in the
provided blank space of the first five sentences on
the website. 2. The student will show
improvement by picking more correct answers from the
baseline/first time that they complete the worksheet
activity, prior to teaching the subject, to the final
time that they complete the website activity, post
teaching the subject. Instructional Technique: The students will work on these
assignments individually, so that way they can have a
better focus of the topic at hand. The teacher will be
available if the students have any questions, or if
the material may seem confusing the first time
explained. Instructional Materials: 1. Ogen, Karen. “Sentences.”
Interactive Learning Sites for Education. N.p., 2016.
Web. 30 Sept. 2016. 2. The Conjunction Baseline
worksheet 3. The Conjunction Evaluation
worksheet Theoretical Perspective:
The learning of conjunctions will
allow the students to get a better understanding on
how sentences are formed, and also develop a stronger
vocabulary. This concept will also be useful when
students are reading and decoding words in various
sentences. Procedure:
1. The students will complete a
baseline worksheet to see what they know about
conjunctions. The activity will consist of them
completing a worksheet where they fill in the blank
with the correct conjunction. 2. After completing this worksheet
the teacher will collect the worksheets so that way
they can evaluate what the student knows. 3. The teacher will give the
students some background information on what
conjunctions are and how they are useful to the
development of sentence structure. 4. The teacher for the rest of the
week will go over conjunctions and have the class work
together on different activities as practice for the
final conjunction evaluation worksheet which will take
place online. For each day that this lesson is taught,
the student will be given a homework assignment. The
homework assignment each night is to write three
different sentences using three different
conjunctions. The conjunctions used may be reused
during other nights of homework, but the student must
use three different conjunctions during one night of
homework. 5. At the end of the week, the
students will fill out the conjunction evaluation
worksheet that goes along with the program which is
found online. On this worksheet, for the first five
responses, there will be four blank lines that
correspond with each question. This allows students to
write their first answer on the top line, but when
they submit their answers to the website, the website
will tell them if they got the answer right or wrong.
The three remaining lines will allow the students to
write their second, third, and fourth possible
attempts in the order that they are made. For the
sixth response, there are five blank lines for five
possible attempts. The website will not let the
student continue to the next question until they get
the question that they are working on correct. This
will allow for the teacher to have documentation of
where each individual student is struggling after the
lesson has been taught. 6. To help students who may have
difficulty with difficulty with reading, the teacher
will read each sentence aloud three times each, using
“blank” for where the conjunction is going to be
placed, before the students begin the evaluation.
During the evaluation, if any student needs for the
sentences to be read aloud again, the teacher will be
able to read the sentences needed to the student who
has asked for the help. 7. This strategy allows the student
to look at their answer on paper before they put it on
the computer and submit what they think was the
correct answer. 8. The paper in which the students
write their answers on will be collected by the
teacher and will be corrected. This allows the teacher
to see what the students has retained. 9. At the end of the conjunction
lesson there will be a classroom discussion. The
teacher will ask the students questions such as “If I
asked you to turn to your neighbor who is confused to
further explain conjunctions, would you be able to do
it?” and if the majority says yes and proves it then
the lesson goal was achieved.
Evaluation:
The teacher will know that they have met their objectives if the students are able to correctly answer the first five out of the total six questions on the evaluation. The objectives that the students will achieve consist of the students being able to correctly select the correct conjunction in the provided blank space of the first five sentences on the website. The students will then show improvement from the baseline/first time that they complete the worksheet activity, prior to teaching the subject, to the final time that they complete the website activity, post teaching the subject. These objectives are all going to be achieved when the teacher collects both the baseline and the conjunction evaluation worksheet. The teacher will keep an eye on the students to make sure that they are not copying what other students are choosing for their answers.
